David’s taking on the London Marathon!

We’re excited to share some fantastic news from our Harlow team, David Burgess, our very own Service Technician, is gearing up to run the London Marathon! Even more inspiring, he’s doing it in support of our partner charity, Cancer Support UK.
A big challenge, a big heart
This will be David’s very first marathon, and he’s not taking the challenge lightly. He’s training hard with the help of the Harlow Running Club and a strong support team behind him. David’s journey is especially impressive given the hurdles he’s faced – after a motorcycle accident a number of years ago, he now has a metal plate in his shin and six screws in his ankle. But that hasn’t slowed him down!
David’s no stranger to pushing his limits. As a former rugby winger and someone who completed the Hackney Half Marathon in his youth, he’s drawing on his past training to get ready for the big day on Sunday, 26th April.
Training with determination

David shared a bit about his training journey so far with Richard from Cancer Support UK:
“I still feel like I’m 25, but my body is 48, so there is a difference there to what I feel like I can do, to what I actually can do! I’ve got some great support and Richard from Harlow Running Club is taking me through the training regime and what I need to be doing each week in the build-up to the race. Unfortunately, I’ve picked up a small hamstring injury, but I’m taking it steady and putting swimming and strength training into my plan. Next on my list is getting some decent running trainers that are going to see me through the race.”
Running for a cause close to his heart
David’s motivation goes beyond personal achievement. He’s running for Cancer Support UK because he knows first-hand the impact of cancer – his dad passed away from the disease when David was just 20.
“I’m keen to support this amazing charity that does so much for those going through cancer. Raising money for this cause can really help individuals to process what is happening to them at this scary and unpredictable time, as well as provide comfort during treatment sessions with their cancer care packs.”
