CPI EUROMIX PROVIDES A WAVE OF BENEFITS FOR THAMES TIDEWAY PROJECT

Tideway is one of the UK’s largest projects, designed to catch, store and transport the raw sewage and copious rainwater which currently spills into the capital’s river.

CPI EuroMix delivered the concrete solution across all nine of Tideway’s ever-expanding locations, currently divided into three main sites, West, Central and East.

To meet Tideway’s stringent design demands, CPI EuroMix specified over 20,000t of its spray concrete solution to form the shafts and tunnels across each site it was working on. Factory-blended for perfect mix proportions, this concrete solution minimises waste and accelerates project efficiencies on site.

A highlight of this complex project was the Dormay Street site, where CPI EuroMix supplied its spray concrete as well as its high-performance segment grout. The tunnel boring machines (TBM) – which move underground and excavate significant volumes of earth – are programmed to put concrete segments in place to form the tunnel and prevent the ground from collapsing after the machine has passed through. However, this segmentation process leaves an annulus which has to be grouted during the boring operation. As a solution to this problem, CPI EuroMix supplied a grout to prevent any complications, such as settlement above ground. 

With Tideway due for completion in 2024, CPI EuroMix’s spray concrete solution is proving to be a vital component in the shaping of Tideway’s multiple networks of tunnels and shafts. A concrete solution which was also specified in the likes of Crossrail, its efficient application and matchless properties will ensure Tideway’s safe operation for many years to come.
